A wooden floor may look attractive and have unique characteristics, but it is also susceptible to more damage than other types of floor. Things to look for include water damage, signs of termites, or outright missing pieces of wood.
Your first step will be to buy a replacing piece of wood that is the appropriate size for the repair. While you are at the hardwood store, it would be a good idea to ask for any tips from the people there while buying the flooring supplies you’ll need for the job. At home, take a bad saw and use it to cut out the damaged board. From there you will want to carefully measure the amount of new board you need and make sure to leave some room to allow for expansion and constriction of the new floor piece. Tap the fresh floor board in place after you have outlined the given area with good floor glue.
The last step will be to hammer the new floor board securely and finishing the job with a few nails at each end. Use a nail indenter to hide them and cover up with a wood sealant so there will be no signs of the repair job. You might have to do some sanding to even-out the new board, but otherwise the job should be finished and you’ll have yourself a new floor. It will be important to maintain it, and you’ll probably want to give everything a good cleaning because work like this can cause a mess. So for a gentle clean that won’t damage your floor further, use something a shark steam cleaner to pick up all the residue of the repair work. In the end you will have found yourself something to keep you busy, not to mention a new floor piece that looks great.
