Kitchen Remodeling Ideas

If you are looking for a way to revamp your kitchen and give it a new look but you do not have the budget to completely start from scratch and install all new cabinetry, countertops, appliances, etc., then there are several smaller remodeling projects that you could attempt that will make a big difference in how your kitchen looks and feels.

One great way to give your entire kitchen a face lift is replacement kitchen cupboard doors. The cabinets are probably the largest single item you can change in your kitchen but it is very expensive to buy and hang new ones. You have two alternatives. You could buy replacement doors from a cabinet manufacturer, or you could refinish your current cabinet doors and replace the old look with a new one. The second option is far less expensive. There are many ways you can refinish your kitchen doors. First, you can strip them and either repaint or stain them a new color. You could also cut out the center of each door and put in glass. Make sure to pay attention to hardware. The kitchen door handles can set the mood of the kitchen as well. New hardware can make a big difference.

Another great project is to add or replace your kitchen island. Many older homes do not have large kitchen islands. You can buy island cabinetry that is ready to go out of the box if you are not interested in adding plumbing to the structure. Adding an island to your kitchen will give you some seating because you can pull up stools. In addition, it gives you additional counter space to work and prepare food.

A third kitchen remodeling project you can do is to add a backsplash. The wall between the top of your counter and the bottom of the upper cabinets is often overlooked in kitchen design. You can add a tile backsplash here and really make the kitchen pop. Look at the colors in your counter top and try to pick accent tiles that will compliment the color scheme. If you are feeling adventurous, you could even try to make a mosaic out of broken tile pieces so that your backsplash is a mural or picture of something.
